During our last visit to Taiwan we were allowed to try a real rarity.
A Tuan Cha made from the Qing Xin cultivar! Tuan Cha means nothing else than rolled tea. Oolong teas that are familiar to us nowadays are rolled by machine and this is how the small balls are created.
With a Tuan Cha, made the old way, the fresh tea balls are carefully rolled by hand for several hours.
The taste of the tea is very refreshing with fruity notes and a deep floral scent of blossom nectar as you would expect from a high mountain oolong.
Usually Tuan Cha is not for sale. It is usually made to give a special gift to friends or business partners throughout the year.
After tough negotiations we were able to convince our tea farmer friend to sell us seven Tuan Cha`s this time :)
